Musical Tools
Milo is the result of the final project of the Industrial Design Career, which was developed together with “Huertas Comunitarias Montevideo”, an organization that installs organic vegetable gardens around the city.
Milo consists of a group of musical gardening tools that intend to motivate children while developing a bond between them, the home-grown garden and a healthy nutrition.
Music is one of the most useful strategies to stimulate and engage children to participate in different activities, thus, we understood that if we could give them the possibility to create sounds while cultivating, the connection between the kids and the earth would strengthen.
Milo’s gardening tools kit includes a sprinkler and two other objects with two functions each: the first one changes between a digging hand trowel and a hoe, and the second one changes between a transplanter and a rake.
Each tool has an aluminium element that executes the gardening function, and wooden handles that contain the elements which produce different sounds.
The sprinkler has tambourine jingles that allow the sounds to be produced by moving the object, while the two types of trowels make sounds thanks to little steel spheres attached to springs in different positions, making them hit one another.
